Artist Share

The Artist Share was established in 2020 as a way to offer reduced rates to working artists, subsidized by hourly rentals, and to increase the range of voices programming public-facing offerings within the space. In establishing Asks & Procedures for the Shebang Artist Share, Meg draws on her experiences as a founding member of Mascher Space Cooperative, as an artist member at Vox Populi (an artist-run collective gallery), as studio rentals manager at Shebang, and as an artist who uses space elsewhere too. Carmichael draws on their experience as an educator and faculty in university environments and at craft schools and as a member/ facilitator of artist studios for over a decade. Its launch was supported by Katrina Atkin and current management is supported by Allison Smith. We are actively informed by the articulated needs of share members themselves and consider the Share structure a responsive one, having evolved in policy several times since its inception in 2020 as we weigh the intersecting needs of Share artists, the space, and the conditions at large.

In 2020, the dance studio at Shebang transitioned to an artist share model, moving the support of individual artists and small artist groups to the center of our mission through subsidized space.

As an artist share member, you get…

  • Access to reduced rental rates

  • Priority given for the time you want to book space

  • Use of the space how you see fit, including classes and showings

  • Maintained insurance, general studio cleaning, and repairs by Shebang

  • Shared awesome vibes with visual artists working downstairs

Pricing and details

  • Membership costs $71.25 each month, which covers hours at their respective reduced rates. Hours booked beyond the $71.25 fee are added to the monthly invoice, charged at their reduced rates.

  • Reduced hourly rates are:

    • non-high traffic (Mon-Fri 9-5): $8/hr

    • high traffic (weekdays 5-10pm and weekend days all day): $10/hr

    • commercial uses (anytime of day): $15/hr

  • Scheduling is done by submitting hours into a request calendar on a monthly basis; these are sent to, booked, and confirmed by a Shebang team member.

  • If you are not able to use the space for 1-2 months and want to hold your membership, you can pay the minimum $71.25 to hold your spot. If for 2 months you haven't used the space or paid to hold it, your rentals will go back to the standard hourly rental rate.
